It’s been another long day and you are finally able to sit down and sip an ice cold can of soda. Just as you are about to turn on the television, your dog comes along and bumps your elbow, spraying soda all over the carpet. There goes your time of relaxation!
Your time doesn’t have to be ruined, however. As it turns out, there is actually a very simple and quick way of cleaning a soda-soaked carpet. First off, throw a paper towel on the spill and step down on it. Replace the towel if it gets saturated all the way through. This will get most of the soda off the carpet. Next up, create a little concoction of one and a half teaspoons white distilled vinegar, one and a half teaspoons liquid dish soap and one cup water. Consider doubling or tripling these measurements so you’ll have some extra for when you may need it again.
Get a washcloth wet with your solution, wringing out any extra liquid. Starting from the outside and working your way to the center, firmly blot the spill with your washcloth. Once you’ve finished with the entire problem spot, remove all the soap by wiping it down with a damp washcloth. Soak up extra moisture by using another sheet of paper towel.
For most spills, that’s all you will need to do. However, if there is a particularly stubborn stain, consider taking it a step further. Place another solution-soaked washcloth on the spot and cover it up with an iron. The iron should be on the lowest possible setting and shouldn’t have pressure applied to it. Leave it for fifteen minutes.
Now, if you ever spill soda on the carpet again, you don’t have to worry. Cleanup will always be quick and easy, which means more time to unwind after a long day.
